Regarding the photo's of the Thunderbolt, and many other known wrecks in the Mediterrenean. Many of these wrecks are substantial. So far not many aircraft are known to have been recovered from it, rather then being stripped by souvenirhunting divers.

I remember that the Italian Museum at Vigna di Valle (if spelt correctly) had a P-47 which was recovered from it, and a Reggiane R2001. The Hurricane now under restoration at Malta as well as the BF-109G at Laatzen. The R2001 is still under restoration I think and the latter was restored to display condition.

Regarding the overgrowth with organisms and the salt content of the water, would there be a good chance to recover airframes intact and in good enough condition to at least restore them to static display standard or possibly to fly?
