i have been scathing of Hendon particularly in relation to both the Halifax and the Hampden
I think my gripe is that if the Canadians can restore both the Halifax and the Hampden using volunteer labour, why can't Hendon use a similar approach. Duxford has used a professional/volunteer mix of restoration staff (viz Hurricane and Liberator to name but two)as have so many other of the wonderful Museums in this country. Many Museums such as Newark have no "career" staff at all and all rely on volunteers to turn out restorations every bit as good as Cardington/Wyton/Cosford.
The professional restorers don't have a monopoly on restorative skills - aircraft can be broken down (especially an a/c like the Halifax)into constituent sections for rebuild.
I think Hendon needs to look again at it's restoration policy - instead of relying on limited in-house or expensive (no disrespect intended Skysport - you've done amazing jobs with the Wallace and the Bulldog)commercial organisations.
I suspect the Ivory tower that is Hendon will not deign to respond! They are probably more concerned with their "Landmark" building.
I wonder if we'll ever turn the supertanker??
