Karen,
The two numbers to the left of the hyphen indicate the North American Aviation aircraft model number. The five digit number to the right of the hyphen indicate the actual part number. The 53### series is for "Surface Control Group" part numbers.
I don't know off hand what aircraft a North American model 73 is/was. I will try to look this up this evening.
I just checked the parts manual this weekend, and the exact same rudder pedal is used on the B-25 C, D and J. 73-52405 is the left pedal, and 73-52405-1 the right.
