Interesting point Jim. Since my recent article and comments about the number of Mustangs getting the 'TF treatment' I've had a number of emails saying I should not pass such comments.
The fact is it is up to individual preference what is done to a warbird (the owner's). Though I have my own opinions I don't try and ram them down people's throats or say that because it is my personal opinion it is law. The fact is that there has been considerable debate recently about the conversion of stock P-51 into TF-51 and the effect it has on the market (amongst Mustang owners too). Many owners have had their Mustangs converted at the restoration stage to TF standards so they can take friends for trips (etc etc). I personally feel the TF is better looking than the stock D model. However, if there starts off being three TF-51s, all sought after, then the market will be affected when another 15 P-51s are modified to TF's.........simple supply and demand. It's not wrong or right IMHO.
Indeed I'd like to see a dual control Hurricane, F-86 and one or two more fly - and I can't wait for the Weeks' Air Museum TP-40N (original) to take to the air!
Cordially
Paul
