James - The are three A-36 Apaches in existance. The fact that something is rare doesn't necessarily mean that it's
desirable. The A-36 is essentially a dive bomber/ ground attack aircraft. The complexity of restoring one to airworthy condition is very probably exactly the same as restoring an Allison engined Mustang to airworthy condition. So basically what I am saying is that you could
get either an Apache or Mustang airworthy for about the same price.
Yes it would be marvelous to have a flight in the
former 'Stilletto' (TF-51) but I would much rather watch her from the ground as a pure fighter in P-51D form
in the same way as watching a Bugatti Type 37 go round Le Mans wouldn't quite be the same thing if they added a second seat to her - it's not a matter of experiencing it to appreciate it .
