For the Wreck Chasers

Someone here recently asked me in the chat room if I knew anything of the Yukon P-63. I didn't off the top of my head, but I thought I remembered an article about P-39s and P-63 ferry flights over the artic (not a job I would want) to Russia during WWII. Since I thought this might have something to do with the Yukon warbird I went looking through my magazines. I couldn't find the article. I did find an article in the February 1984 edition of Air Classics caled "Beneath the Midnight Sun". It was an article about P-39 and P63 operations in Alaska. There was a picture of a P-39 wreck site in the Alaskan bush. The caption reads... "One that didn't make it... thirty years later. The remains of P-39Q-15 44-2031 flown by 2nd Lt. Walter Kent." The isn't much recognizable in the picture except for a maybe the wing tips and a fairly intact tail section. I though the wrech chasers her might like to know about this one... or is it old news? i.e. Has this one been recovered? BTW, the location information was given.

Regards,

Mike
