Corsair survival...

Most Corsairs had fabric covering on the outer wing panels outboard of the gun bays. Once the fabric rots away, it may appear that their is less structure remaining (because there was less to start with). Corsairs also have wooden ailerons, so they won't last long either.

As for the tailcone, there is a production joint behind the cockpit, so the tailcone may tend to break adjacent to that joint during a crash, or in the case of a dumping, it may have just been unbolted previously to scavenge parts and been dumped elsewhere.
