In reply top O-47 found in Panama (from ANN) posted by bdk on Mon Feb 04, 2002 10:11:01 PM

For those not familiar with the O-47 (like me!)
See:

http://www.wpafb.af.mil/museum/annex/an23.htm

This aircraft is mentioned on the CILHI web site press release:

http://www.cilhi.army.mil/pr010202.htm

They also mention a P-38

Also this was posted on aus.aviation.rec

"The US Army have recently discovered 2 USAAF B-24 Liberators that went
missing on "Black Sunday" April 16, 1944.

That day, eleven aircraft went missing with another 26 were ditched,
abondoned in flight or crash landed as the formation of fighters and
bombers was stopped from returning to its home base by a storm.

Both the B-24's were discovered at 1500 metres on nearby hillsides,
believed to have crashed trying to escape low terrain by flying into
IMC.

Survivors of Black Sunday were walking out of the jungle for weeks
after the event, being helped by locals.
And PNG holds so many US miltary aircraft the US Army has opened an
office in Port Moresby !!"

The article its self can be found here

And my book on Black Sunday is in storage :-(.. Some of these may have been found before
but not investigated..
