Since I do not have the resources myself to go after them...if they actually exist, I contacted a well known and well respected American collector about them several weeks ago to see if he wanted to try and go get 'em.

We had a long conversation by e-mail, and he was very interested, he asked me(!)if I knew anyone who could help, and I gave him a few names to contact.

The most important thing I said to him though, was that as an American he would not stand a chance of getting them out of Syria, given the USA's close relations with Israel, and that it would probably be better that a Brit did the work for him.
After he talked with a Brit historian about the situation, who apparently does believe that there are still some Spitfires out there, and I do too, they agreed with me that an American would not be able to deal with Syria....not until Hell freezes over anyway, or it snows in Death Valley.

That is about as far as we got, though he did say he would let me know if anything came up in the future, but of course things have got a hundred times worse since 11th September, and I don't think (even !)a Brit would be welcome in Syria right now....especially when it comes to looking round military airfields......being stuck in a Syrian jail for "spying" is not something I would like to experience....

Most probably no-one from any NATO or "Sympathetic to the Wicked West" country would get very far either, so it cuts you Cees out of it as well....

Perhaps if you happened to be an arab, or from somewhere like the "Friendly Islands" you might stand a chance !

OR.....does anyone know a Friendly Flying Carpet Dealer or Magic Lantern Salesman.....errrr....arab that might be able to haggle for us ?????

Cheers
Mick

PS:- No offence meant to Flying Carpet Dealers , Magic Lantern Salesmen or professional Hagglers....
