Friend of mine was having a check flight in a C152 over one of the more inhospitable bits of Florida recently when a mag failed - the instructor flew the thing back to base very rapidly whilst invoking the good Lord to keep the other pulsing!! As I recall it happened to the same friend in a 150 over here a few years back as well! Electrical Discharges do strike twice!!

I know most "modern" piston Pipers and Cessnas, etc, have mags, but whether the newer types with the latest engines do I don't know. And what about the modified VW1600 engines in some homebuilts - also Porsche produced a version of their car engine for aircraft - mags or electronic - anyone know?

Me, I'll stick with the mags as well, when I can afford my Merlin or Griffon powered goodie!
