Perfect Day 3

Posted by Paul McMillan on Sat Jan 26, 2002 10:07:11 AM

I am reading the account of the Norwegian Campaign 1940 in Fledgling Eagles

Now.. I was wondering how much of the stuff that was lost is still around. (Norway being a big country, with not much population). It seems to me the Norwegians could get a mighty fine collection up with recoveries and swaps.. For instance.. Anybody know if any of this stuff has been recovered:

a) Lake Jonsvannet - Ju 88 of 1/KG 30 crashed while attemping to land on Frozen Lake and later sank(17.4.1940)

b) Hover MF 11 F-332 burned Lake Mosvaan 18.4.1940. Wreckage later sank when Ice melted.

c) We all know about the Gladiators on Lake Lesjaskog in Norway. According to WW Directory 3 have been recovered. Plus 1 planned. Anyway.. There were about 16 lost in total at this location (according to the book) plus a couple of Skuas (so there is agood place to go and find one of these, whoever asked).. That leaves a whole sqn in fresh water!

d) We all know about the Ju52/3 on Lake Hartvigvann. There were 12 lost in total (this must be the place mentioned by the Phoney people) Ok 5 have been recovered, that leaves 7!)

e) All sorts of other stuff force landed all over the place, the book has pictured of Swordfish, Norwegian Air Force Gladiators He-111...

e) Skua L3048 force landed on a sandpit but later had to be destroyed..

e) the fjords of Norway must be good 'salt' place for aircraft witness Fw-190 recovery! all sorts were ditched in them including Skua and Swordfish so what about them?

Fanisnating book.. Now where did I put my snorkal and passport!
