I do remember seeing a very dodgy movie (possibly a pilot for a series that didn't quite make the cut?) a number of years ago about a group of american servicemen stranded on a Pacific island when the Japanese invaded and in true "A Team" style they set about creating these machines out of the partial airframes and numerous bits of trucks etc. that were scattered over an abandoned airfield on the island.
Can't remember much more about it except that Bruce Boxlietner (spelling?) was the main character in it.
