I don?t know what the situation is in other countries but, in Sweden there is a supply of 91/96UL aviation fuel. A small national company by the name Hjelmco Oil has it refined somewhere eastwards.
It is claimed to be easy on the environment since not only the lead has been removed but also other additives that take care of the lead once its mission in the engine is complete and it has to be exhausted.
It has been approved by general aviation engine manufacturers (Lycoming and Continental) for use with most engine variants. It appears that some engine variants need the lead for one reason or the other, mostly for valve seat lubrication and/or fuel injection pump issues.
If memory serves me correctly, Hjelmco Oil has looked into the problem of refining a higher grade fuel without the addition of lead but with another additive to substitute the good qualities acchieved with lead.
The 100/130UL is however not a reality in the near future, if it ever will be.

Christer
