Following on from a posting on another forum I wonder if anyone here has information about the fuel situation on a global basis - and any sources of published information would be welcome too -- here is a response to my post from Joseph Schiel which was of interest -
"Paul and Tim,
The latest hard evidence I have was released by EAA in Nov 2000 and describes the 100LL "problem". Economics will eliminate it, not any regulation, and will achive this through increased cost.
In 1995 refiners produced 120 billion gallons of Auto Fuel, 23 Billion Gallons of Jet A and 250 million gallons of 100LL Avgas. The replacement for 100LL will be something called 82UL, and use the autogas STC. A 100 LL replacement is being watched from many corners but who knows what it may cost.
As an aside, this morning in PSP gas is sold to autos in 3 grades 87, 89 and 92 octane with prices running from about .99 cents to 1.45 per gallon.. In dollars!
Whats a Euro worth today? As for 100 LL it is about 2.35 and Jet A 1.79 or so. Buying performance gas for my 68 427 Corvette (Sunoco 116 Octane) is about $5.00 a gallon. So limited quantity prices are much higher...
Remember that in the USA, and especially California, every gallon has about 30-40 cents of its price as tax to the state and feds...
Now there are 500 SNJ aircraft 200 Mustangs and say an additional 1000 Warbird aircraft in the Nation that fly. Say 2000 Aircraft. Every one of those aircraft can be averaged at 50 GPH lets say, and each owner could be budgeted to fly 50 hours a year... Well this leads to 5 million gallons or so..Comments..?
Joe"
Would appreciate views and information from anyone with an interest
regards
and Happy New Year
Paul
