keeping personal feelings and remarks about this sort of operation out of my reply...

Hi Karen,

My initial thought, is to contact Mr. Wistler, and request one of the prop blades for a simple memorial.

In the UK, we have several memorial markers, at former 8th air force airfields. These normally comprise, a stone/marble/brick plinth, into which is inserted the tail marking of the group, a map of the airfield as was , and a brief history of the airfield/ squadrons, and normally capped by a prop blade or the entire assembly.

It strikes me, that a fitting and simple memorial to your uncle, would be something along these lines. It would be great of course, if there was something substantial enough, from your aircraft, to mount in a P51 somewhere else. Of interest to me, is what happened to the dataplate from this aircraft, is it still in Mr. Wistlers possession?

If the dataplate could be found, and incorporated into a simple cockpit mounted tribute, then that way, the spirit of a wartime P-51, would always be flying somewhere.

I think you mentioned earlier that Kermit Weekes had provided a flyby at the memorial? I think, from what I have heard of him, he would be very sympathetic, to the idea of mounting the dataplate in his Mustang

Hope this helps
