Loads of possibilities there.

At first glance the best one might just be N1749, the one off Nairn, if the crew really did get out?
But if it was that close to shore it might have been recovered during or shortly after the war........hopefully not though ?

L7035 in the Moray Firth is also a good one, being within swimming distance to the shore.
The rear gunner did die, but not in the aircraft, he was last seen standing on the wing trying to blow up his lifejacket, but then got swept away.
This according to the story in Flypast many years ago.

So it appears that there is not a Defiant in Loch Ness after all, unless it is one which went missing, and has been found again ?
My opinion is that this one has been mixed up with L7035 in the Moray Firth, and that there isn't one in Loch Ness.....unless someone knows differently ?

Also L6972 off Dunkirk might be worth looking into ?
As we know, several aircraft have been brought out of the sea or dug out of beaches in the Dunkirk/Calais region, and are now being actively restored to fly......what'll be left of the original plane when they do fly though is another matter entirely !

Once again Paul, thanks very much, tremendous stuff matey !

TTFN
Mick
