We are merely custodians and guardians of history, that a few visionairies saw fit to start to preserve, before it became fashionable, or specualtors made it lucrative.
The people who had the vision, to preserve airframes, so long ago, are mostly forgotten, as the current owners/guardians will be in 50 years time. However, the most important parts, the airframes, will live on.
Aircraft, and flying warbirds, will outlast the end of fuel, they will outlast their current owners, if treated with care and respect, and they will also represent, some of the first examples, of man attempting to preserve, living, breathing history, for his or her descendants.
If you think about it globally, the only unbalanced element, are aircraft, allowed to rot in some distant land, or forgotten shore or field, as "War monuments".
I tend to get very aeriated over that statement. If you genuinely wanted a war monument, then you would seek to get one, that will last a few hundred years, not a few decades.
We have a lot of people to thank, for the preservation of history. I have become very friendly with the curator, of a large and eminent museum facilty (probably because we have the same views and sense of humour) One of his regrets, since becoming the head of what he does very well, is that he can no longer do what makes him really happy....personally re-build aircraft. but, he realises, his job, is now to make sure , that history is preserved, and to insigate, and carry out policy that ensures this.
..and i intend to help him, to the best of my ability. Some of the things planned, or, that from neccessity need to happen, will upset a few people.
So, I'll make my statement now, as Barbrady says.... "I don't give a rats' ass" Yes ,people will be upset, chiefly the "Little England" numpties who will gnash their teeth, and go a-weeping and a-wailing. Tough, it's more relevant in one museum, then it is in another, and if you cared that much, you'd have visited the airframes more often.
If I can finalise the system that i am working on, that will enable museums to talk and transact securely with each other, than we will end up, with important and relevant airframes, in the right places, and both sides, and the punters happy.Initial discussions with museums and collections, have had well, a VERY positive response.
So, in essence Paul, yep, it's fine, but a bit unbalanced, but Uncle Tony, the black sheep of the family is working on it
