: For a corroded hulk missing a lot with no FWF - $5,000
: Some corrosion and missing some stuff no FWF - $12,000
: Some corrosion and missing some stuff with FWF - $20,000 -
: $30,000
: "Complete project" includes FWF $40,000.
These prices seem quite low. Where (or when) did you obtain these numbers?
As Mark Clark notes, the supply of T-6's is low. I think that most of the easy projects have been restored already, so the value of a good project aircraft has risen.
I haven't seen an airworthy T-6 for under $110k for many years. I'm also a member of NATA, and I haven't seen prices in their publication in the ranges you quote either.
My opinion, but I would take your numbers and double them. I think $80k is a fair price for a T-6 that has a core engine and prop, and needs a thorough IRAN to be airworthy. You would need to overhaul the engine and prop, rebuild all the hydraulics, replace the wiring, replace all the canopy glass, overhaul the instruments, and recover the control surfaces.
I think that $40k would get you a T-6 project requiring significant skin replacement, and/or center section spar replacement (plus all the other items mentioned in the previous paragraph). A true frame off restoration.
Of course, maybe I just have too much money into my T-6 project so I want to justify the expenditure! You be the judge...
