Hi CJ--

MK297 dinged its prop somehow while taxiing on the first day of the 1990 Hamilton airshow. It never flew again after that. The prop was replaced, for static display (prior to the beginning of a refurbishment for the Canadian Memorial Flight concept), by a Seafire XV unit...which would've had an interesting effect had the Merlin been started, since the temporary prop would turn "backward"!

The Spit had been stripped for refinishing prior to the fire, and the Merlins from both this and the Hurricane were away under overhaul (or so I am told). For the record, the fire wasn't in 1991, it was early on the morning of 15 February 1993--almost exactly eleven years ago.
