No I don't think it is a valid restoration technique.

They are only restoring it at all because they don't want to be mercilessly criticised as they were/are with the Halifax.

Of course they don't have all the money to do a complete restoration job, which is not really their fault because our gov gives them virtually nothing in the way of restoration funding, apparently.

No matter what they have said in the past about the Halifax being a suitable memorial to bomber crews as it stands.....eeerrrr lays.................if someone came along with a big suitcase of cash to restore it, it would be started immediately.......the same goes for the Hampden, and the wings for the Southampton etc etc etc.

If the Whitley, Albemarle and Stirling restorations are successful, I don't know where they will actually end up, but if people want to see a completely restored Stirling, Albemarle or Whitley one day, then it will only be done by outsiders and not by the RAFM....not unless they get a huge amount of extra funding from somewhere.
