I figured I'd move this conversation back up to the top.
I've heard about Mr. Bean going on to his great reward for as many years as I've been involved with warbirds. I have been told of his untimely demise in a Corsair and his becoming hors d'voirs for his hounds by more than one reliable person.
The Corsair that Bob Bean died in was F4U-4, BuNo. 97302, N68HP that used to be owned by Howard Pardue.
This is taken from Air Classics, Aug 93. " This was one of numerous Corsairs owned by the late Bob Bean. Howard had purchased the non-flyable aircraft from Bean and contracted with Bean to rebuild the plane back to flying shape. Bean, a man of rather unorthodox religious views, died inside the fuselage of the fighter during the rebuild. He had always claimed that the devil was hiding somewhere inside this particular Corsair and perhaps the devil finally found him."
