Hi Lynn--

Obviously Ruud is a propliner fan...I can relate to that!

That museum is legendary for both its physical uniqueness (the main display hall is in what architecturally amounts to a kind of monster railway tunnel--guarded at each entrance by turboprop-engined Tu-4s, ie. B-29s that take jet fuel!) and its enormous collection (some of the transports in which Ruud kindly shows us all on his website--with tantalizing hints of more warlike stuff).

The "rubbish" in front of the Il-18 comprises at least two Nanchang CJ-6As and at least three or four Il-10s, plus whatever those apparent wing/nacelle sections are. I've seen this shot (or a similar one) somewhere before.

Most of the intact fighters/strike aircraft in and around the museum are postwar, of course: an armada of MiGs/Shenyangs, Sukhois, et cetera. They do have some older items; the most memorable for a lot of the WIXers would be an improbable-looking semi-replica Mosquito airframe, a rather melancholy reminder of the dozens of (Canadian-built) Mossies employed by the Nationalists in the late forties. I've yet to see a shot showing all of this replica, but what I have seen suggests the canopy and an engine mount may be genuine. Anyone seen this item more comprehensively?

S.
