I think the original AD note was for fatigue cracks. That could cause a spar failure at reduced loads.
A new spar still would not preclude a static overload unless the Baron spar was heavy enough so that the failure was pushed to the next weakest link (like the horizontal stabilizer for instance).
Aileron flutter, improper spar installation, incorrect attach bolt torque, or too much bank with the yank could also have caused the failure.
The debris from the crash should provide the evidence required to determine the root cause of the failure.
