Hi Glenn--
: Don't know why the mueum would have any interest in runnin
: g a jet. The operating costs are staggering and there is n
: o way to come close to recovering even the insurance costs
: at airshows.
I think the post I responded to was referring to ground engine runs and possibly taxi "dashes", like at Bruntingthorpe in the UK, rather than flight operations.
And I wouldn't expect to see any remote oper
: ation either. Too costly, and no need. While it is definet
: ly more of a pain to operate out of Hamilton these days, I
: fail to see what reason there could possibly be for a rem
: ote base.
For now, yes; but if the foreseen expansions happen at the Hope over the next few years I could see CWH deciding to base their "Legends" pleasure-flying program elsewhere.
As for the HIAS, CWH got out of the airshow busi
: ness long before the expansion at the airport. The reason
: was that overall, you loose too much money producing an ai
: rshow.
Yes, back in the mid-80s. Today, though, apart from the economics (which was what actually felled HIAS after the '01 show), the place is just not suitable for such an event anymore anyway. Red ink or no, it was a matter of time.
While it is true that there are fewer aircraft flyi
: ng these days at CWH then in the past, the reality is that
: it takes a lot of money to maintain and operate old airpl
: anes. Any sugar daddies out there please send large checks
: !
No kidding, eh...

BTW Glenn--I remember you quite well from CWH; I worked in their bookshop and, briefly, as a tour guide, from 1985-87. Also saw you on the circuit a few times more recently in the ex-Don McNall T-34.
Cheers
S.
