Hi Joe:

Thanks for the info. I was really thinking of the inability to use these a/c under standard category or transport caategory, rather than the Restricted airtanker employment. Seems to me that I read some years back that due to the 115/145 going away, that would effectively ground either the -6 or -7 as a freight hauler. Any info on that?

Regards

Jase

: Jason,
:
: There have not been any groundings as 100LL is used today
: in the Tanker DC-7 and DC-6 aircraft. There is a reductio
: n in power available as they cannot run the higher MP. I
: think there was a post regarding this in the past. Derati
: ng the aircraft is fairly coomon and "preferred" by the Ta
: nker operator management I think. An example is the Drome
: ndaer SEATS that are flying with those Russian Cyclones.
: They were originally about 1000 hp but are now rated at 80
: 0 at lower power settings. This adds to engine life and a
: llows emergency power to get out of trouble. The difficul
: ties of operating a Turbo Compound R-3350 are far in exces
: s of any Turboprop so getting people who understand the en
: gine is almost a greater limiting factor than the fuel req
: uired.
