This is not meant as a criticism of Jim Pearce but having started reading the same issue, the thought that crossed my mind, was why recover these components and then store on the floor, until sold.

I know that the magazine pictures only give a blinkered view but to my untrained eye, I would have thought that such storage, may cause further damage.

Is it possible to store recovered airframes in another manner?

On the flip side, at least these airframes are being recovered, offering the possibility of restoration.

: Hi all,
:
: This evening I picked up the latest copy of Aeroplane (it
: takes a bit longer to get it than FP). I noticed the excel
: lent news on the discovery of the Boston in Newfoundland (
: Oi!!!!! Canadians, recover it please, it has lain there lo
: ng enough).
:
: But the photograph of the warbird wreckage (because that i
: s what it is) of Jim Pearce got me thinking. What is the u
: se to import tons of shredded aircraft (only 10% of the ai
: rcraft he recovered were reasonably in one piece)?
:
: Looking at the mangled sections, who is going to buy that
: lot and what are they going to do with it. I can imagine i
: f a wreck is reasonabley complete like the Fw-189, Me-110'
: s, Il-2s and some others, that it would be very valuable b
: ut who is going to pay a lot of money for scrap (beautiful
: scrap that is but just the same). Also in the article it
: was mentioned that he had imported some 45 aircraft (wreck
: s) from Russia, where have they all gone?
