allegedy from 'crashed Japanese plane' according to todays UK Daily Telegraph but no other story confirms this
"Jungle hunt for gold in wartime crashed plane
Troops have been sent to a remote mountain in Papua New Guinea's jungle to search for a hoard of gold believed to have been on board a Japanese plane that crashed during the Second World War.
Ten tons of gold reportedly worth ?230 million are said to have been found in a cave this month by villagers on New Ireland, an island 530 miles north-east of the capital, Port Moresby. For decades the presence of the gold, believed to have been hidden in the cave by local people after the crash, was a closely guarded secret.
Papua New Guinea's Post-Courier reported that the search party was sent out after an elder revealed on his death bed that a villager had located the cave and discovered an unknown number of gold bars in rotting wooden crates. By Nick Squires in Sydney"
Or fable?? Or Fools rush in??
