Hi Tim,
I'm not a Brit. I'm an Australian, married to a Canadian and living in England. I have many American friends, and relatives in the US.

Bob can indeed paint his aircraft any colour he likes. However, if he paints it in military colours, he needs to get it correct, as it is disrespectful to the unit, country and heritage he is representing. Sorry, but that's my opinion, which I'm entitled to.

I really, really appreciate that Bob's taken the trouble to go for a non US Scheme. However, to turn it on it's head, how do you think the CAF would feel if I turned up with a completely innacurate scheme? (And a direct equivalent to the reversed fin flash is to have the US star and bar painted point down...)

All I'm asking, is that he scheme is accurate. There are loads of people including the FAA Museum who would be delighted to help. Please provide or direct us to evidence that the scheme is correct. Sadly I don't believe it exits.

No one has to be thankful for a (sorry) botched scheme - it just makes those that know wince and - critically to me - distorts hiistorcal accuracy. The CAF aim to commemorate the sacrifices of W.W.II aviators. Maintaining a Wildcat or Martlet is a wonderful and expensive way of doing that, and I thank Bob for the effort. Plee take a bit more effort, no more cost and paint it right. (or in civil colours...)

With best wishes
James
