Computer Virus - No real protection except system backup.

Hi there

I deal with this sort of thing every day on a Government wide basis. I know a lot of "experts" will tell you do this or that , load this patch or that firewall thingy and it will solve all your problems - well it will help but there are some key things you need to do before all of that.

1) When you set up your new machine and you have it as you want it - back up the whole thing on a spare drive with drive wizard or some such product and leave the drive as a backup but not connected - make sure you set it up as a boot drive not a slave -

2) If you get a major issue on your drive and cannot easily recover it, format it and use the backup drive to transfer your system back on it.

3) Backup your main drive regularly to the spare to keep the backup as current as possible - ensure it does not contain a Virus first as otherwise you are just backing up a problem.

4) I always wipe my drive and rebuild it every 3-6 months as Windows aquires so much crap in day to day use that it is slowed down considerably within this timeframe. I find my system is much better ever time I do this.

Aren't computers fun!!!!!!!

Kindest regards
