Hi Mike,
The operator's manual (from the 1940's) for the V-1710 indicates the following:
"Commercially pure" Ethylene Glycol was a hygroscopic compound involving Ethylene Glycol and pure water (produced by the National Carbon Company of New York City). Sodium Nitrite was the suggested (but not absolutely required) rust inhibitor--to be dissolved into the compound in the proportion of a .2% weight.
Additional water was typically added, but the manual suggests retaining at least 95% Ethylene Glycol (recommended 97%) for any turbo-supercharged operations.
As far as what Merlin operators are using today, I'm sure Vlado Lenoch would be willing and able to answer that question for you...if the mustangsmustangs website ever comes back to life!
Have a great day,
Dan
