British Aviation Enthusiasts Society visit to Olympia

A group from the British Aviation Enthusiasts Society came to our museum (Olympic Flight Museum) and airshow a few days back. Various members have been to visit and fly with us on three or four occasions since 2000.

The first visit was purely by accident, they were on a tour of the west coast and heading to tour McChord AFB and as they were driving up the highway, somebody remarked that they had heard there was a museum at the airport. They pulled up out front of the building just as I was walking out of the maintenance hanger and we just happened to meet in the parking lot. We weren't supposed to open for a few more hours but I let them all in anyhow. After about twenty minutes, I mentioned that it was possible to purchase a ride in most of our planes. I have never seen people so excited in my life. I called the boss and couple of other volunteers for help. We drug all the planes out and ended up doing about twenty rides that day.

Every trip they make here gets a little more fun. This last trip was the best yet. The people seem to enjoy the visits and it's good for the museum. I really believe the museum staff and volunteers enjoy it more than anybody.

From what I have seen, it looks like a good group for anybody from Europe to be associated with. I would be interested in hearing anyone elses views on the organization.

They just put a report on their visit and posted a few pictures of our planes. I am told more will be posted soon. Look for Olympia 2003 under the tour reports.
