From the B-24 board
I have just finished a job uplifting a P-38 in Papua New Guinea for future restoration. Whilst on the job, we followed a lead on a second P-38, but instead discovered an unpublished wreck of a B-24 buried in the jungle. The serial number on the fin as read was 240348 and the local elder remembers pulling out the bodies of the aircraft shortly after the crash but had to leave the remains on a track beside the aircraft due to the proximity of the Japanese.
The details of our find will be forwarded to the appropriate authorities here in Papua New Guinea and hopefully the "body snatchers" will follow up with an examination of the wreck for the remains of the crew.
So which P-38 is this, where is it going, what state is Twin Niftys in, and most importantly of all, has Hawaii been informed?
