I used to enjoy sourcing information from various books and magazines (pre-internet days) about specific airframe types, and compiling a short written history about the airframe type variants. (this was before my spare time was consumed by collecting photos of warbirds) One of the types I researched was the Lancaster since I was inspired by the CWH Lanc. I rember reading someplace that the Herc power Lancs had a much better climb rate and cruising speed. But that is all I remeber off hand. What was the horse power of a Herc? The Merlins on the Lanc were 1600 hp each, which was impressive for a heavy at the time.
Imagine what a bomber of that era could do with four P&W R-2800's? :-)
Regards,
Mike
