Hi Cees!

I wasn't one of the kids digging it up in the picture, but I do have a sizeable chunk sitting in the shed. Mum was going nuts when she saw me dragging it across the beach towards her and Dad, she thought it was a bomb from the ranges further up the coast!

I don't think the explosives did too good a job. It was about the same time they did the Heinkel 111 off Skegness Pier (was shot down by Guy Gibson when he was with 29 sqn? I think...)as it was a danger to swimmers.

The photos I have seen of the beau just before it was blown up show it up to the level of the cockpit canopy in wet sand. It would take a heck of a lot of explosives to shift it, and I don't think it would have had much of an effect on engine blocks: look at the stuff that is dug out of the earth after it's gone in vertically, e.g the Timeteam Spit.

I might have to go and have another peek at Tetney High Sands...even if just to satisfy my curiosity!

Regards
Richard
