Cees,
Yes, it was blown up -- 1968 I think. The photos you have seen were presumably taken before the event. Should have a few of my own photos if it somewhere. As far as I know it has not been seen since. I live just a few miles from the location and was one of those hoping to dig it out before we we ordered off it and the Navy called in.
As I recall, after the story got into the local press an ex-RAF ground engineer reported to the police that the wreck included bombs and ammunition. Considering how bombs were carried externally on a Beaufighter and the aircraft had ditched in shallow water I always thought this unlikely. Someone else recalled playing on the wreck in the early post war years and is certain there was no ammo left in the nose. However, the authorities could not be expected to believe a group of young enthusiasts when the RAF bod, who claimed to have been one of the team tried to recover the aircraft immediately after the accident said otherwise. Hence, we (Lincolnshire Aircraft Preservation Society and also the local boy's grammar school) were ordered off and the wreck blown up. I think it was some lads from the Grammar school who first reported the wreck had re-emerged from the sands.
