I live in Akron Ohio and have had several friends that worked at GAC during the war (my great grandmother was a ribstitcher in the fabric shop). A couple of them told me that during and after the war many un-needed subassemblies were trucked to Wingfoot Lake and dumped...since they built a number of different types, who knows if or what is in that lake? I do know that one of the plant dumpsites lay at the foot of Thomastown Grade School. My father would "raid" the dump every once in a while as a gradeschooler. I have a couple Corsair stick grips, numerous instruments (brand new still in the box) that were liberated. The area around the school has been virtually unchanged since the war...its hard to drive by and not want to dig. In a matter of hindsight, about 20 years ago, around the time of Sir Goldsmith, Goodyear "cleaned" out thier holdings and had a for lack of a better word, yardsale of old pieces and parts from the 30's and 40's. There was a hangar full of stuff...everything from Duraluminum from the Akron and Macon days, to fittings and instruments from various a/c and blimps. LOTS of tech manuals..tools...rivets...fittings...you name it.
I was only 10 at the time...dammit...but I remember it well.
