Hi again,
L7300 was part of 207 sqn, so Fiskerton is the wrong base for the aircraft anyway seeing as they were based at Waddington from November 1 1940.
In Bruce Robertsons book "Lancaster- The Story of a Famous Bomber"It tells the story of L7300's landing incident.
The date given is as 23 November 1941. It states:
"Manchester L7300 had a most spectacular crash. Turning into the wind to land, the aircraft suddenly yawed to starboard at an altitude of a mere 200ft. The pilot instantly opened up the engines to gain height. The Manchester shuddered violently with the pilot in only partial control. It skimmed over treetops and while the pilot fought his losing battle for power and altitude the tail struck the ground, causing the machine to slew round and then skid along the surface into a lake. Miraculously, all the occupants, nine in this case, escaped with their lives; albeit they were severely shaken- and so was their confidence in the Manchester."
The log at the end of the book gives this entry for L7300
L7300 207sq(EM-S) Crashed in lake near Waddington 23 Nov 41
If this is still in the lake its going to be worth all this digging through old books..
Regards
Richard
