Longest Grounding of a Warbird

Posted by Dan on Mon Jan 06, 2003 05:35:03 PM

Greetings all,

Had a stray thought about this a couple of days ago so I thought I'd start a new thread;

What is the longest time a warbird has been grounded since it's last flight before it has been returned to the air?

The VMFA in Edmonton, Alberta for instance has a PV-1 project which last flew in 1953 making this year it's fiftieth year that it's been grounded, and I myself have a BT-13 project that hasn't flown since 1942. The BT will easily be another ten years before it flies which will see it being grounded for the better part of seventy years between flights - pretty sure it'll still remember how though when the time comes! :-) Anybody know of any other long(er)-term hangar queens?

Regards,
Dan
