Tim - My point is that from reading the article the implication is that if the crash had been a fatal one the would be very little impetus from the guys to have another go. The various forums often say that the families are always in favour of a aircraft going back in the air but that simply isn't true. Some do -some don't . It's something that cannot be taken for granted.
Regards your Harpoon project yes it is sad that there
isn't more interest in the type but in fairness maybe that will help get them preserved eventually rather than have them tied up in the hands of investors who will sit on them.
I looking at one recently in Portugal and hopefully soon there might be a bit more interest in preserving some with
former European operators.
Regards the restoration of warbirds is worth noting the number that have been restored in the U.K and very shortly afterwards offeed for sale . Restoration for profit does exist and in many cases people can justify spending large sums over a long period to get a reasonable return
rather than leave it in the building society at 4 percent.
