...trouble is though, very few people recognise a merlin engined Beau, seeing as the 'classic' beau had Hercs fitted (wasn't it the Japanese who called them 'the whispering death' in India/Burma?) and I think that the owner is more motivated to get her in the air with Hercs. I'd rather wait and see her airborne with Hercs rather than with Merlins and anyway I doubt you'd get many pilots nowadays who'd be happy about going up in something which is too heavy when fitted with Merlins, after reading a few books with anecdotes regarding the Merlin version you realise why they were mostly relegated to training and not used for front line service, even the Poles didn't have a high regard for them and they would fly anything happily (well I doubt they'd have liked the Botha ;). She will fly, I have no doubt about this but it will be a long way down the road yet as there are numerous powerplant related problems to overcome but the lads at TFC seem to be in contact with the right people so lets congratulate them on the progress they've made so far (they have done LOTS of work to get her this far).
Tom ;)
