Serial number information

Hi All,
Can anybody supply confirmation of these serial numbers

T9068
Believed to be a Beaufighter from 272 Squadron and lettered V. Based at Malta but do not know which mark.

T5048
Possible the same machine as also lettered 'V' but serial number is not clear so looking for confirmation.

Also, with I have seen pictures of the Beau', with "Stickleback" exhausts and shortened exhausts, whereby the "stickleback" section, is missing.
Are these differing exhaust systems or is the shortened exhaust, a locally modified system and if so, what benefit was gained.

Any information, as always, is gratefully accepted.
