Finally found my encyclopedia of Russian aircraft under a pile of other books. Ok, "the ASh-82 is a 14 cyl radial which used cylinders developed from the M-62 (2 stage supercharged M-25 which was the license built version of the Cyclone) but of a reduced stroke giving the engine a capacity of 41.2 litres instead of 42.7 (cylinders 155.5 x 155) which eventually produced an engine of 1900hp in the later versions". So we are looking at a developed Cyclone cylinder being used on a new crankcase with modified con rods and possibly pistons. Upon looking over the list in the book it now turns out that the Russians license built the Gnome-Rhone K14 Mistral Major which means both an I.A.R 180 and an Hs 129 are both much better propositions as they used this powerplant, hmmmmmmm...
