Right oh,
The 801 was a 14 cyl, it was the original prototype's BMW 139 that was a 18 cyl. two row radial. This being a new BMW company design created by the joining of two BMW 132 nine-cylinder radial engines.
This was the one that had the overheating problems and BMW designed the new revised 801 with 14 cyls., so don't know out the copying of a Wright-Cyclone, but sounds feasable.
