If memory serves me right, I wrote the article but I am too lazy to dig out the old issues of Flypast.

Anyway, the RE 2001 restoration began in earnest and the fuselage structure was completed and put on display. You can see a photo of it on Mikael's www.preservedaxisaircraft.com site.

The project ran out of steam just about when they were ready to tackle the wings, but it seems that 2003 will see the ItAF make a fresh start. We all sincerely hope so.

The only surviving RE 2005 structure is the rear fuselage section preserved at the Caproni Museum, which underwent conservation by GAVS Lombardia about a decade ago. Again, check Mikael's website for a photo. Thought has been given to completing the fuselage, but the consensus is that it would destroy its authenticity. Far better to build a complete replica, possibly to fly. But beware: the type has a record of tail flutter, with several disastrous failures in combat. If you will allow me a little self promotion - read all about it in my RE 2005 monograph in the "Ali d'Italia" series. Best of all, its all bilingual!
