To the best of my knowledge, Paul Allen's P-38 is NOT being restored in Rialto as indicated by the "P-38's Still in Existance" page. It is only in storage.
Are you suggesting that two P-38's from PNG are now in California?
Paul Allen's "people" also bought some (two?) NOS P-38 QEC's recently from another collector (who shall remain nameless since it isn't important) in Southern California.
I can't imagine that three R-2800's would be too difficult to find. Cores are plentiful in the US. Overhaul parts are becoming scarce though.
I'm sure all of these aircraft will be restored as time and funds allow. The public will have their chance, eventually. Most of these things probably aren't much worth looking at now anyways except to the occasional "extreme" enthusiast. I doubt the general public (the masses) would much care.
: Hi there... just heard from a friend of mine about those t
: wo P-38's which were recovered from PNG a couple of years
: ago now. Apparently, there was also a third P-38 which got

: Paul Allen! One thing for sure is that both are expected t
: o be restored, as the restorer was looking for 4 Allisons.

: Also of note, there were three razorback P-47's recovered
: at the same time. Apparently they had been buried at a dum
: p in PNG and were recovered. The same restorer is supposed
: to be handling these as well... and you guessed it, they
: want 3 R-2800's for the restorations....
:
: Should be some interesting things coming to fruition in a
: couple of years. Only thing is that I hope that the public
: eventually gets to enjoy them too. Oh well, same old same
: old... whomever has the toys can do with them as they wil
