Hi Andy,
The more this story was discussed upon in the past years the more confusing it got (as with everything) Although it was suggested that the airframe was used for trials or as a trainer (for what?), it was useless to try and fly it in this configuration or only by a very experience pilot (with a death wish).
There are photographs suggesting that this is just a case of erasing the outer engines but leaving the shadow of the propellor of the port outer engine still on the fuselage.
But I have never heard or read about a twin engined Halifax other than the HP56 (the one with Vulture engines that was never built).
The truth will probably never be known, or won't it?
