Peter - Increasingly I become a bit sceptical at the lengths being taken to restore a machine to airworthiness.
I have no doubt's about the ability of restorer's to replicate ,renew or indeed just create the missing parts.
What does upset me is that fact that as you rightly put it machines are both not being managed correctly and also done on seemingly impossible budgets. What does amaze me however as you will probably agree is that her first owner in the U.K was more capable than most of affording a quality restoration.
I would feel far more comfortable if she had been used as a jig to create a 'new' Seafire and then sold or exchanged to the FAA museum as an original. I hasten to add
that I would advocate full disclosure and I think that most
enthusiast's would support this idea.
Sadly what we have now is very '1986' and not '1943'
and that's incredibly sad to me.
