Thanks for all the info Dave. Nice bit of history there. My search for information will continue however. I thought the R8895 might be the aircraft I was looking for. It's not however. I'm looking for another # 3 Squadron Typhoon that ditched with the individual code letter "Y" and flown by then Flt lt. "Lefty" Whitman RCAF. I would like to find out which serial number this aircraft was and the date.
Thanks for the help.Neil
: Neil,
:
: R8895 was ditched by Ron Pottinger shortly after take-off.
: He was picked up fairly quickly suffering from the effec
: ts of cold water and a little shaken. During the late 70s
: 8895 was dragged up onto the banks of the river as it was
: deemed a hazard to fishermen. It was essentially complet
: e. The aircraft was broken up by scrap merchants, after a
: few articles were taken by some people. Rons son has a f
: ew parts and Ron himself is still doing well, as of earlie
: r this year, and is amazed that his son wants some part of
: an aircraft that tried to kill him!!!
:
: Hope this helps a little.....I was disappointed when I fou
: nd out about the recovery
