Yorkshire Air Museum

I had to visit the in-laws last weekend in York. Luckily, i managed to pack the Wife off shopping while i spent a few hours at the Yorkshire Air Museum.

I've never been there before and have always wanted to go, mainly to see the Halifax. I have to say that the Halifax was awesome. People who are rude about it's authenticity, clearly haven't seen it. As far as i can tell, it is all genuine Halifax parts, virtually indentical parts from Hastings and others, new build parts (using the same construction techniques). The only exceptions to this authenticity seem to be the nose and the undercarriage. A truly magnificent effort. How about a Stirling?

HP Victor "Lusty Lindy" was in great shape and looked ready for take-off.....if only!

I was disappointed to see Gloster Javelin XH767 sitting outside behind the main hangar. I have a personal connection with this aircraft, as this was the airframe that used to sit outside my parent's squash club in Worcester for years. I remember playing on it's wings as a child....happy days. When this was acquired from the museum in Norwich, it was reported as a good thing for the airframe as it was assured a place inside the hangar. Two Buccaneers, two Meteors, Hunter, Lightning, Mirage, Harrier and Dragonfly have all been sqeezed in, so why does the Javelin have to sit outside? What a pity.

Cheers
Stuart
