: Brad, if you can swing it, a trip to Davis Monthan and the
: Pima Air Museum should definitely be on your to do list.
: Tucson is about 3 hours from Luke. Falcon Field, where C
: hamplin and the CAF are based, is the best bum around airp
: ort for warbird/vintage fanatics. Drop by Gosshawk, which
: is attached to Champlin, and take a look at the FW-190D a
: nd Champlin's Kingcobra projects. There are lots of other
: interesting birds around the airport, such as the late E.
: D. Weiner's checkerboard Mustang, some Canberras, C-130A,
: etc., but it just depends on who has got their hangar door
: s open. Oh, Marsh aviation is also at Falcon with dozens
: of S-2 trackers scattered around waiting to be converted t
: o turbo power. They also have a bunch of HU-16s, wonder i
: f they are to receive turbos also? There are also PV-2s s
: cattered all over the airport. As Tulio mentioned, Deer V
: alley may be worth dropping by. It used to be much more i
: nteresting before Thunderbird Aviation folded up and left.
: That is where the F-8 Crusaders came from (if they are s
: till there). Lots of Nanchang's and T-6 Texans around the
: place too. I have not been out to Chandler Memorial in a
: while but there used to be lots of ex-fire bombers around
: , DC-4s and the like. Williams Gateway is kind of hit or
: miss but their are some jets about. May be more or less n
: ow as I have not been out there in over a year. Drop me a
: n email if you want to talk more. I live just a couple of
: miles from Luke and would be happy to speak with you and
: point you in the right direction. Regards, Chad Veich.l
Definitely go to Pima if at all possible, highly recommended . Also, at Chandler, there was a B25 under restoration in one of the hangars a while ago along with other treasures and a few firebomber Neptunes etc.
